Zebra and Tiger Print Cowhides
How they are made?
There is nothing quite like a large Zebra or Tiger print rug when it comes to animal skin rugs. These two animals have perhaps the most widely used two tone theme used in interior décor. The Zebra is a large animal common in many parts of Africa that looks like a cross between a donkey and a horse. Though there are a variety of breeds, the zebra’s black and white stripes are beautiful and make the rug easy to fit into almost any theme within a home.
In a similar fashion the tiger, the largest of the wild cats, is very often favoured for interior décor based on its unique and beautiful brown and goldish stripes. Fortunately for us today technology allows us to showcase such pieces within our homes without actually having to go after one of these rare animals. In many cases these rugs are produced using stencils that are applied to bleached cowhide. As a matter of fact thanks to such technology the colours can be adjusted to create a truly unique rug. However, once you have the rug for prolonged use, care must be taken to protect your investment.
Caring for your printed rug
Like all animal skins, cowhide requires special care and maintenance. A trip to the dry cleaners with your rug is likely to ruin the rug rather than get it clean. The best and most recommended way to keep your rug clean is to use a vacuum cleaner. When using the vacuum on the rug it is always advisable to brush in gentle strokes that run with the grain of the rug. This ensures that the rug does not get caught repeatedly in the vacuum. Whenever the weather is favourable and you have an extra hand to help, it is also advisable to fold the rug and take it outside for shaking and airing. Shaking the rug helps loosen dust and minute particles that may be lodged beneath the hair that could contribute to discoloration. Airing also helps the rug breathe and removes any odour. Every now and then something may spill on the rug requiring your attention. Fortunately animal skins do not stain easily and gentle cleaning with a damp cloth and mild soap should remove the spillage quite fast. Since soap may contribute to damaging the texture, once the spill has been removed, it is advisable to again repeatedly wipe with a moist cloth to remove all the remaining soap.
